Getting Real About Drunk Elephant A-Passioni Retinol Cream

I have been wondering about retinols and adding them into my skincare routine for a long time. I decided to try the A-Passioni Retinol Cream from Drunk Elephant as DE is one of my most trusted skincare brands where I have several products that work well for me. So I figured if I was going to take the plunge into retinols this was a great option.

First of all…What is Retinol?

Retinoids have been considered one of the best skincare methods for treating acne and antiaging. It can help to prevent wrinkles, brighten dull skin, treat acne and fade dark spots. However, retinoids also have a reputation for being harsh on your skin and they can cause some dryness, redness, peeling and increased sensitivity to the sun (which means sunscreen is an ABSOLUTE must). Overuse can in some instances even cause retinol burn. Use of a retinoid is also a commitment product if you are adding it yo our routine they are not a one time deal and it does take consistency and patience to see results.

WHATS NICE ABOUT IT

It is a lightweight cream with 1% Retinol. This product features a pure form of vegan retinol.

At 1% concentration, retinol can dramatically improve the look and feel of uneven skin tone and texture and ward off the damage done from daily exposure to UV rays, pollution, and other free radicals.

This product in particular features the following:

The triple peptide blend is a potent trio of peptides that visibly firms and strengthens, boosting the age-fighting benefits of retinol. Vitamin F is the soothing fatty acids (linolenic and linoleic) that work to visibly improve skin‘s texture and suppleness and calm signs of sensitivity.

OTHER NICEITIES

This product is vegan and cruelty-free. This cream is free of essential oils, silicones, and fragrance. It is also part of Clean at Sephora.

APPLICATION, USAGE & iMPRESSIONS

  • Morning or night, apply a pea-size amount or less to a clean, dry face, avoiding the eye area.
Limit initial use to once or twice a week, gradually increasing frequency to every other night and then every night as tolerated.

  • Always use a broad-spectrum sunscreen

  • This can also be mixed with any Drunk Elephant cream or oil.

I was really excited for this product and started using it slowly as directed. I liked the texture and it applied nicely similar to my other DE products.

Now, I am not new to products that involve a little patience in order to achieve great results such as purging flaking etc. But what happened with this product was unlike others - it was next level. Unfortunately, it left my skin feeling red, tender and oh so sensitive to the point of discomfort. Unfortunately for me this product did not improve my skin.

FINAL THOUGHTS

I wanted to love this I REALLY DID. I wanted it it to make my face look healthy, smoother and clearer but it just didn’t. I am not afraid of commitment and patience for products but this one and I just did not get along.

Therefore, if you have very sensitive skin like I do and you are looking for ways to improve your skins clarity and texture I would stick with AHA’s and BHA’s (DE T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Night Serum is one of my faves) if your skin can handle them or if you have very durable skin that can stand up to this type of product give it a go but for me its unfortunately a no and definitely not a repurchase.

Have you tried retinol products? What was your experience? Are there any you would recommend?

I’d love to know - Comment Below.
