Tried & Truth: Are You Going my OUAI

OUAI Scalp & Body Scrub.jpg

As the Cowsills song goes …

“Give me a head with hair, long beautiful hair -
Shining, gleaming, steaming, flaxen, waxen -
Give me down to there hair”

and in truth that’s what I strive for with my long locks so when I saw a product that not only would provide exfoliation to my winterized scalp but would also give me some smoothness for my skin I had to give it a go. I love a product that pulls double duty (especially for future travel). So this OUAI Scalp & Body Scrub seemed ideal.

But was it smooth sailing or did it leave me feeling gritty? Continue reading below for all my thoughts.

FIRST IMPRESSION & APPLICATION REFLECTION

OUAI

Scalp & Body Scrub

Upon opening the container the loveliest scent wafted across me - the signature OUAI scent of Melrose Place — is one described as a ‘velvety rich rose fragrance with hints of bergamot, lychee, cedar-wood, and white musk. ‘ If i had smell-a-vision I would share but trust me if you haven’t smelled it before is it worth hunting a the product line down and having a whiff.

I do wish the packaging was something other than a jar because sometimes opening up a jar in the shower can be cumbersome (and potentially damaging for your toes if you drop it) but that aside the packaging is beautiful and the texture of the product inside was delightful. It has just enough slip to make it easy to dig out of the pot but not too watery it runs right through your fingers.

With long hair like mine I did find it difficult to section off my hair and keep reapplying the product as the described usage.
I eventually placed it thoroughly throughout my hair. I attempted to rub around in circular motion but it tangled my fine hair so bad I gave up. It did not provide enough lather to gain enough saturation for my hair to glide through. I couldn’t get the desired gritty sensation I wanted to really feel like my scalp got a proper exfoliation. Then it was time for the rinse… and well easy enough as it was it did take some time prying apart my strands to get it all out. Overall - It didn’t leave my hair or my scalp particularly exfoliated or soft.

Now the body, was another story. I simply applied the product to various areas on my skin and rubbed around in the circular motions with my hands. I would recommend using your hands and not any other tool such as a loofah or cloth as you risk loosing a lot of product. As I scrubbed it gave a comfortable sensation that cleared away dry skin with ease and upon rinsing left my skin feeling baby soft and smooth - just how I like it.

LOVE IT, LEAVE IT, TRY IT, BUY IT & FINAL THOUGHTS

Love It, Try It

It smells great - the melrose scent is absolutely addictive. However, I would say for myself this product would most likely remain only for body instead of my hair as it just didn’t do it for my long dry locks. It didn’t deliver the degree of exfoliation or moisture I prefer in my hair products. I couldn’t get it down to the scalp enough for it to really be worth my while but what it does for skin - was keep its promise of good exfoliation. Will it be a lasting love or a consistent re-purchase? It’s too soon to tell. The bottom line is this - if you are in the market for a sugar scrub and have shorter hair this is certainly one worth trying however, if you are a long haired girl like myself and already have a good exfoliant for your bod this is one to save for later and perhaps try another OUAI product that has this gorgeous scent.

Do you enjoy sugar scrubs? Do you prefer them for your hair or body?
